Van Buren Probate Court Records Office

The Crawford County Courthouse is at 300 Main Street, Room 25, Van Buren, AR 72956. The office phone is (479) 474-6332. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Circuit Clerk keeps the master docket and handles each new probate case intake.

The Circuit Clerk files instruments as a matter of record in decedent estate cases and in small estate affidavits. The office also keeps all records for adoptions and guardianship cases within the county. Adoption records are sealed by law. Juvenile Division records are not open to the public.

Van Buren Probate Court Records Types

A Crawford County probate file can hold many papers. Each case starts with a petition under § 28-40-107. The court admits the will, names a personal representative, and sets deadlines. The rep files an inventory within 60 days under § 28-48-101 and gives notice to creditors. Claims must come within six months of first publication under § 28-40-111. A will must be filed within five years of death under § 28-40-103.

The base filing fee for a new probate case is $165. A small estate affidavit under § 28-41-101 runs $25 to $30 for estates at or under $100,000, not counting homestead or statutory allowances. Wait 45 days after death before you file a small estate.

Copy fees at the Circuit Clerk are simple. Plain copies are $0.25 per page. Certified copies are $5 per document. Letters testamentary and letters of guardianship certified copies are $5 per set. Real estate recording fees are $15 for the first page and $5 for each added page. These often come up when an estate held land or a house.
